Kintsu by Vuon Dau Labs

AI-assisted 3D model inspection and repair.

We’re building Kintsu, a workspace that finds problems in 3D models and repairs them automatically, using visual understanding, AI reasoning, and geometry tools.

Preserve the details, openings, and assembly clearances that matter.

Currently in development. Email us to express interest in early access, or contact the founder.

For independent STL designers, makers, and small print studios.

Illustrative example
Two-part sample enclosureA sample base with a cable slot and a mounting hole, and a separate lid with a peg. The slot leaves a 0.8 millimetre outer wall, highlighted for review. The cable slot and the peg-to-hole clearance are marked to stay unchanged.
  • Orange hatch: outer wall 0.8 mm, below an example target of 1.2 mm.
  • Dashed outline: cable slot 21.2 × 24 × 16 mm, keep open.
  • Lid peg: Ø5.0 peg in the Ø5.2 mounting hole, keep a 0.1 mm gap per side.

01 · Product

Decide what to change, and what to keep.

Preparing a multi-part model means deciding what to change—and what to preserve. A thin wall may need reinforcement, while an assembly gap must remain open.

  1. 01

    Find the problem

Mark areas that need a closer look: thin walls, broken or self-intersecting geometry, and pieces disconnected by mistake. Parts that are separate by design stay separate.

  2. 02

    Explain the impact

Describe each finding with the measurement behind it, so you can judge whether it matters for your print.

  3. 03

    Repair automatically

Targeted repairs are applied automatically, then re-checked so preserved details and clearances still hold. Compare before and after, and undo any change.

02 · AI Planned architecture

Your model, understood in context.

By combining rendered views, structured geometry data, and your instructions, Kintsu is designed to reason about both the model and what you want to achieve.

  • Model views

    Rendered views, close-ups, and cross-sections.

  • Geometry measurements

Part structure, dimensions, wall thickness, and detected issues.

  • Your design intent

What each part does, what can change, and what must be preserved.

Analysis

AI-assisted analysis

Interprets your request, asks geometry tools for more measurements or views when needed, applies targeted repairs, and summarizes the checks.

Geometry tools: measure · section · check

Findings and repairs

Each finding comes with its evidence. You decide what to apply.

Rendered views and geometry measurements give AI the context to interpret your request. Repairs are re-checked with geometry tools before export.

03 · Workflow Planned

AI that investigates, then asks you.

  1. Step 1

    Understand

Link your request to specific parts and to the constraints you set.

  2. Step 2

    Investigate

Ask geometry tools for measurements, sections, or extra views when information is missing.

  3. Step 3

    Repair

Apply a targeted edit within your constraints.

  4. Step 4

    Review

Re-check the result and report before-and-after measurements.

When a request is unclear or conflicts with a constraint, Kintsu is planned to ask rather than guess—it will not always know what a part is for. The first version covers static geometry; motion checks and strength optimization are not included.

04 · Example

One request, step by step.

How the planned workflow would handle a request on the sample enclosure shown at the top of the page.

Example request

“Reinforce this thin wall while keeping the mounting hole and cable opening unchanged.”

  1. 01 · Selected area

The outer wall beside the cable opening is selected. It measures 0.8 mm.

  2. 02 · Constraints

Keep the Ø5.2 mm mounting hole in place and at size. Keep the cable opening at 21.2 × 24 mm.

  3. 03 · Investigation

Reaching the 1.2 mm example target needs 0.4 mm more material. Growing inward would narrow the cable opening to 20.8 mm, which breaks a constraint.

  4. 04 · Repair

0.4 mm is added to the outside face automatically, because growing inward would break the cable-opening constraint.

  5. 05 · Verification

Re-measure: wall 1.2 mm. Mounting hole and cable opening unchanged. Then slice and test-print before relying on the fit.

Sample values from the illustrative model above. Section views in steps 3 and 4 are enlarged; the plan views are to scale.

05 · About

Started at the print bed.

Vuon Dau Labs is an independent studio started by Anh Tuan, a full-stack developer who works with Blender, AI tools, and 3D printing in personal projects. Kintsu is its first product.

From the founder’s workbench

Personal project that inspired the product

The idea grew out of a personal project: a transformable 3D-printed flower with multiple moving parts. Preparing successive revisions raised a recurring challenge—reinforcing one area while preserving the clearances and connections that allowed the mechanism to work.

The experience shaped our product direction: every proposed edit should make its effects visible and provide a way to check that important features remain intact.

06 · FAQ

Questions, answered plainly.

Who is it for?

Independent designers who sell STL files, makers who design models with several parts, and small studios and print services that prepare files for printing.

Is the product available today?

Not yet. Kintsu is in development, and there is no public release yet.

Does it guarantee that a model will print successfully?

No. It is meant to find and explain geometry problems, and not every problem will have an automatic fix. Printer, material, orientation, and slicer settings still matter, so slicing and a test print stay part of the process.

What role does AI play?

AI helps interpret your instructions, connect visual context with geometry measurements, and apply targeted repairs. Dedicated tools perform the measurements and checks; every change is re-checked and can be undone before export.

Will AI decide what to change?

It repairs automatically within the constraints you set. When a fix would break a constraint, or a request is unclear, it stops and asks.
